Wee miss the old Rooftop Brewing location but combining their craft beer style with that of Maritime Brewing at the Jolly Roger Taproom makes the two greater together. So, while on one of our latest trips to Seattle we got a chance to try their La Azotea, a Mexican-style Lager, at a taphouse we were visiting. We were rewarded with a solid beer that we’ve now added to those to look for during our working days in Seattle.
The La Azotea Pour
La Azotea hits the glass with a clean, pale straw color and a bright clarity. The head is thin but persistent, giving off just a faint hint of sweet corn and a touch of floral hops. It’s a straightforward presentation, no gimmicks, just a tasty lager.
The Craft Beer Experience
The first thing you notice is the crispness. It has that signature snappy finish you want from the style, backed by a light, bready malt base. There’s a very subtle lime-like citrus note trailing behind the initial drink, which adds a nice layer of refreshment without leaning into “flavored beer” territory.
While this is not a reinvention or renovation of what a lager should be, it executes the fundamentals with confidence. It’s light-bodied with a low 4.8% ABV, making it a perfect choice if you’re planning on enjoying more than one type of beer during your trip to Seattle like Wee do.
Wee Verdict: 3.25 / 5 Caps on Untappd
This is a solid, reliable lager that knows its lane. It’s a “utility player” beer, perfect for a sunny afternoon or as a palate cleanser after a flight of heavier pours. It doesn’t quite reach the heights of a legendary import or a world-class craft beer standout, but it’s a respectable local entry that we’d happily order again with a rating of 3.25 on Untappd.
