After a couple of days on the road in early December, wee weren’t quite ready to go home and found ourselves at 5 Rights Brewing in Marysville. Wee weren’t looking for a quick light lager, or a heavy BBA, instead wee ordered up a couple of glasses of their 3rd Street Sunrise Imperial IPA.
The Pour: More Than Just a Craft Beer
When you’re coming off the road, your senses are dull. You’ve seen too many grey overpasses and the karaoke from the night before still lingers in your mind. But when the bartender set that tulip glass down, the color alone felt like a wake-up call.
True to its name, the 3rd Street Sunrise glows with a deep, vibrant orange hue; a liquid version of that precise moment the sun clears the horizon. It’s unfiltered and bold, topped with a frothy head that looks like morning mist.
The 5 Rights Brewing Experience: A High-Octane Reward
The 3rd Street Sunrise isn’t a craft beer for the faint of heart, and at the end of a road trip, wee didn’t want anything faint. As an Imperial IPA, it packs a punch, but it’s surprisingly graceful for its weight.
- The Aroma: The second the glass hits the table, you’re hit with an explosion of citrus and tropical fruit. It smells like a grove of grapefruit and mango trees; a far cry from the “new car smell” of our rental.
- The Taste: It’s a masterclass in balance. You get that initial hit of bright, resinous hops, but it’s backed up by a sturdy, bready malt backbone. It’s piney, citrusy, and just a little bit dank.
- The Finish: Despite the higher ABV, it finishes clean. There’s a lingering warmth that settled our “road weariness” almost instantly.
Why the 3rd Street Sunrise is the Perfect “End of Trip” Pint
There is something poetic about drinking a craft beer named after a sunrise at the end of a long journey. It represents the start of the “after-work” life. Sitting there, watching the people interact at the brewery while the hop profile danced on my palate, a perfect endcap for the trip.
5 Rights Brewing has built more than just a taproom; they’ve built a sanctuary for the weary. The 3rd Street Sunrise isn’t just a craft beer; it’s a gold medal for a successful trip.
The Wee Verdict: If you find yourself passing through Marysville, whether you’re a local or just a road warrior looking for a port in the storm, order the 3rd Street Sunrise. Just be warned: one sip might make you want to extend your “business trip” by another hour or two.
