The 2025: Space Quadyssey isn’t just a beer; it’s a technical feat of brewing and blending that pays homage to both Belgian tradition and Skagit terroir. Space Quadyssey is brewed deep in the heart of Edison, Washington, where the Skagit Valley farmlands meet the sea at Terramar Brewstillery. This a Wee favorite stop on our way to Bellingham, Washington.
2025 marked the release of the fifth chapter of Terramar Brewstillery’s most ambitious liquid series, so what makes this year’s “Quadyssey” their most complex voyage yet?
2025: Space Quadyssey — The 5th Chapter
For those unfamiliar with the series, Terramar’s annual “Space Quadyssey” is a Belgian-style Quadrupel that evolves every year. The 2025 edition takes that evolution a step further by utilizing a sophisticated blending process that bridges the gap between fresh brewing and patient barrel aging.
The Science of the Blend
The 2025 bottled release is a carefully curated 50/50 blend:
- 50% Fresh 2025 Space Quadyssey: Providing the vibrant, fruity esters and bold malt backbone.
- 50% Whiskey Barrel-Aged 2024 Space Quadyssey: This portion spent a full year resting in Terramar’s own Single Malt Whiskey barrels, contributing layers of oak, tannin, and vanillin.
To finish the journey, the beer is bottle-conditioned with champagne yeast, resulting in a fine, effervescent carbonation that lightens the body of this 10.5% ABV giant.
Tasting Notes: A Galaxy of Flavor
Expect a pour that is deep mahogany with a tan head, offering a complex aromatic profile that shifts as it warms in the glass.
- Palate: Deep malty notes of plum, dark cherry, and toasted caramel.
- Mid-palate: Sweet toffee and “bready” richness from Skagit-grown malts (specifically Linc Malt Francin Pils and Baroness Pale).
- Finish: Subtle spicy phenolics and a hint of warming whiskey from the barrel-aged component.
Born of Skagit Terroir
What makes Terramar truly unique is their commitment to the “Terra” (land). Every grain of barley used in the Space Quadyssey is grown and craft-malted right in the Skagit Valley. By using local malt, Terramar ensures that this Belgian style—traditionally rooted in European history—carries a distinct Washington soul.
